Bengaluru, Apr 5: Bengaluru has been rattled by a disturbing incident of sexual harassment that occurred in broad daylight under the jurisdiction of the Banasawadi police station.
The shocking event took place three days prior on Hennur Main Road, in the vicinity of the Indian Petrol Bunk within the Banasawadi area, but details have only recently emerged.
According to police reports, the victim was riding her scooter from a friend's home towards her own residence at approximately 4:30 a.m. Exploiting the deserted early morning streets, two perpetrators pursued her scooter and forcefully stopped her.
The assailants then subjected the young woman to inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment, including touching her private parts. When the victim cried out for help, passersby intervened and came to her aid. However, as the public attempted to apprehend the accused, they brandished a knife, threatening the bystanders and successfully fleeing the scene.
The victim has since filed a formal complaint at the Banasawadi police station. Based on her account, the police have registered an FIR and initiated a comprehensive search operation to locate and arrest the culprits. Authorities have also secured relevant CCTV footage related to the incident.
This distressing event follows a series of recent crimes against women in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka. Earlier in the week, a young woman migrant worker from Bihar was reportedly kidnapped and raped near a railway station within the Mahadevapura police station limits. In November 2024, a viral CCTV footage captured a man inappropriately touching a woman walking in Ramamurthy Nagar, leading to the swift arrest of the accused. Furthermore, just yesterday, a case of alleged gang rape of a woman in front of her children on a private bus in Davanagere district came to light, resulting in the arrest of three suspects. These incidents have collectively raised serious concerns about the safety and security of women in the region.
