Amritsar, Mar 14: A shocking incident unfolded at the Golden Temple premises on Friday as an unidentified man, armed with an iron rod, attacked devotees, leaving five injured. Among them, a Sikh youth from Bathinda is reportedly in critical condition and is receiving emergency treatment at Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Vallah.
The assailant targeted two sewadars of the Golden Temple and three devotees from Mohali, Bathinda, and Patiala. Swift action by the police led to the arrest of the attacker and his accomplice, though their identities remain undisclosed.

The attack took place inside the historic Guru Ram Das inn near the community kitchen around noon, coinciding with the celebrations of the new Nanakshahi year. Police revealed that the second accused had allegedly conducted a recce before the attack.
Strongly condemning the assault, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) termed it a larger conspiracy to disturb peace at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib. SGPC secretary Partap Singh urged authorities to reveal the identities of the accused and ensure strict action against them.
“All injured individuals are receiving medical care at SGPC-run Sri Guru Ramdas Hospital. The prompt response of SGPC officials and surveillance cameras helped in nabbing the accused,” he added.
Singh further stated that such incidents aim to create fear among Sikh devotees worldwide, but the SGPC remains committed to maintaining peace and security at the revered shrine.
