Agra, Mar 12: In a shocking incident, a man disguised as a woman set his married lover on fire inside her house after she refused to leave with him. The accused, identified as 28-year-old Umesh, sustained severe injuries while attempting to escape and is currently undergoing treatment along with the victim, Rekha (30), at SN Medical College in Agra.
The incident took place in Koh village on Tuesday afternoon when Rekha was alone at home watching television. Her children were at school, and her husband, a farm laborer, was away at work.

According to police, Umesh, a resident of Hasanpur village in Haryana and the brother of Rekha's elder sister-in-law, arrived at her house disguised in a lehenga. He was dropped off near the village by an accomplice on a motorcycle. Entering the house through the terrace, he pressured Rekha to leave with him. When she refused, he doused her in petrol and set her ablaze.
Hearing her screams, neighbors rushed to the scene. In an attempt to flee, Umesh jumped from the terrace but suffered serious injuries.
Police arrived shortly after and transported both Rekha and Umesh to the Farah Community Health Centre. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later referred to SN Medical College in Agra.
Investigations revealed that Umesh had been a frequent visitor to Rekha’s house, and the two were involved in a relationship. On August 31 last year, Rekha had eloped with Umesh, but her family filed a police complaint. She was eventually brought back from Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, on February 10.
A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
