Mangaluru: SMKC Dubai to build 25 houses for needy in Raichur to mark silver jubilee

Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 12: St Mary's Konkan Community (SMKC) Dubai, now officially registered as St Mary's Charitable Trust (SMCT) in Mangaluru, is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a significant humanitarian initiative—constructing 25 houses for underprivileged tribal Catholic families in Pothnal, Raichur. To launch this initiative, a special event will be held on Sunday, March 23 from 4 PM to 7 PM at St Anne’s Friary Hall in Mangaluru.

A legacy of service

Founded in October 2001 following the Monthi Fest celebrations at St Mary’s Church, Dubai, SMKC has been dedicated to serving the less fortunate. Noel Mascarenhas, the founding president of SMKC Dubai, played a crucial role in shaping the organization’s vision and commitment to social service. The organization was blessed by Emeritus Bishop Aloysius D’Souza and Fr Cyprian D’Souza OFM, the then Konkani-speaking pastor. Over the years, its mission has extended from Dubai to Mangaluru and the surrounding districts.

Transforming lives through education and healthcare

Since 2004, the Education Trust Fund at Bishop’s House, Mangaluru, has supported countless students in pursuing higher education in fields such as engineering, medicine, nursing, and management. Additionally, the Medical Trust Fund at St Anne’s Friary, Bejai, has provided critical aid to those in need of healthcare.

With contributions exceeding Rs 5 crore, SMKC has positively impacted lives in Dubai, UAE, and the dioceses of Mangaluru and Udupi, along with various regions of Karnataka.

Silver jubilee Initiative: ‘Build 25 homes and care’

To mark its silver jubilee, SMKC is partnering with the Holy Trinity Capuchin priests of Karnataka and their Vimukti Charitable Trust, which has been at the forefront of social transformation in Pothnal, Raichur. The initiative aims to build 25 homes for tribal Catholic families. Each house, costing Rs 3.5 lac (approximately USD 4,200), will provide families with not just shelter but dignity and security.

Supporters and well-wishers are invited to join the celebration and contribute to this noble cause, ensuring that the light of compassion and service continues to shine for years to come.
