Bhopal, Mar 12: In a significant recognition of its rich cultural heritage, four historical sites from Madhya Pradesh have secured a place in UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The inclusion in the tentative list is the first step towards gaining the prestigious World Heritage status, which would bring global recognition and boost conservation efforts.

Experts from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and heritage conservation bodies had been working towards securing this status for years, highlighting the sites’ unique value in India’s historical landscape. Officials expressed optimism that full UNESCO World Heritage status would follow after further evaluation.
State tourism and cultural authorities have welcomed the announcement, stating that the recognition will help boost tourism and promote preservation efforts.
Madhya Pradesh is already home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the famous Khajuraho temples, Bhimbetka rock shelters, and Sanchi Stupa. The addition of more sites to the list would further cement the state’s position as a major cultural heritage hub in India.
