Bhopal, Mar 8: In a shocking turn of events, an elderly man in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district ended his life by jumping into the burning pyres of his grandson and granddaughter-in-law. The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday in Siholia village under Bahri police station limits.
The chain of events began on Friday evening when Abhay Raj Yadav, in a fit of rage, brutally attacked his wife, Savita Yadav, with an axe following a heated argument. Overcome with remorse, he later took his own life by hanging. Their last rites were performed around 9 p.m. the same night.

However, the tragedy deepened when family members, returning to collect the remains the next morning, discovered the charred body of 70-year-old Ramavtar Yadav near the pyres. A police investigation confirmed that the elderly man, devastated by the deaths, had leaped into the flames.
Police ruled out any foul play, stating that the extent of the burns on Ramavtar’s body suggested he had voluntarily entered the fire. His remains have been sent for post-mortem.
According to villagers, Ramavtar had been in shock after losing his grandson and granddaughter-in-law. The couple, who had two children, frequently argued, and Abhay, reportedly struggling with drug addiction, had assaulted his wife just days before the fatal altercation.
The police are conducting a detailed investigation into the case, but preliminary findings suggest grief drove Ramavtar to take the extreme step.
