Udupi, Mar 3: The Centre for Microfluidics, Biomarkers, Photoceutics & Sensors (µBioPS) at MAHE, Manipal, hosted the prestigious MAHE-IIT Symposium on “Advancements in Microfluidics and Biomarkers in Healthcare” on February 21, at the Sir M V Seminar Hall, MIT, Manipal. Drawing an audience of 150 participants, including students, researchers, and industry professionals from across India, the symposium served as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Established in 2023, µBioPS aims to foster cutting-edge research across multiple disciplines. The centre is led by a distinguished team comprising Dr Naresh K Mani, Dr Praveen Kumar, and Dr Vijendra Prabhu from MIT Manipal, Dr Raghavendra Upadhya from MCBR, Dr Bharath Prasad from MSLS, and Dr M Mukhyaprana Prabhu from KMC Manipal.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by several esteemed dignitaries. Dr Narayana Sabhahit, pro vice chancellor–Technology and Sciences, MAHE, presided as the chief guest, Dr Raviraja N S, chief operating officer, MAHE and head, MCBR, served as the guest of honour and Dr Somashekara Bhat, joint director of MIT. These leaders praised the centre’s achievements and MAHE’s unwavering commitment to innovation and collaborative research. They also shared valuable insights on the pivotal roles of microfluidics and biomarkers in advancing modern healthcare.
The technical sessions featured distinguished speakers from premier institutions across India. Among them was Dr Jagadeesh Bayry from IIT Palakkad, Dr Debjani Paul from IIT Bombay, Dr Krishna Mohan Poluri from IIT Roorkee, Dr Umashankar Singh from IIT Gandhinagar, Dr Shravanti Rampalli, CEO, Ignite Life Science Foundation, Dr Abhishek Chowdhury from Premas Life Sciences Private Limited, and Dr Manjunath S from Cytiva. Their presentations covered a wide range of cutting-edge topics, including immunotherapy for autoimmune diseases, biomedical applications of microfluidic devices, protein biomarker analysis, and nanosensor platforms.
The symposium concluded with impactful closing remarks from Harinarayan Sharma, CEO, Manipal Foundation and vice president, MEMG, International India Limited and Dr Srinivas Mutalik, principal, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. This successful event not only showcased the latest technological advancements but also exemplified the spirit of scientific innovation and collaboration between India’s leading research institutions.
