Mumbai, Feb 28: In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old youth was brutally attacked with a sickle by his own friend after he refused to join him for drinking at a bar in Antop Hill. The victim, Aftab Wajir Sheikh, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Sion Hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, Antop Hill Police arrested the accused, Shahid Riaz Ansari, who has a criminal record. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against him, and the court has remanded him to police custody.

The incident occurred around 9 pm on Tuesday near a paan shop in front of AA Enterprises, close to Bhagat Sheikh Mistri Dargah in Antop Hill.

Aftab, a college student, resides in Jai Maharashtra Nagar, while the accused, Shahid, lives in Vikrant Society in the same locality. On Tuesday night, Shahid invited Aftab to ‘Omi Punjab’ bar for a drinking session. However, Aftab declined the invitation, which enraged Shahid.

In a fit of anger, Shahid attempted to strike Aftab on the head with a sickle. Aftab defended himself, suffering severe injuries to his hands and legs in the process.

After the attack, Shahid fled the scene, while locals rushed Aftab to Sion Hospital. He received medical treatment and was later discharged.

Upon receiving the information, Antop Hill Police registered a case of attempt to murder based on Aftab’s complaint. Within hours, the police tracked down and arrested Shahid.

Investigations revealed that Shahid is a history-sheeter, with three cases registered under the NDPS Act at Agripada Police Station. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
