Kolhapur man held in Goa for hoax bomb threat to Mumbai police

Panaji, Feb 11: Goa’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Monday detained a 40-year-old labourer from Kolhapur following a hoax bomb threat made to Mumbai police.

According to sources, the man allegedly made a call from Verna, Goa, to Bandra railway police in Mumbai, claiming he would blow up Chembur police station. Acting swiftly, Mumbai police traced the call to Goa and alerted authorities here around 6.30 pm.

Goa police, with the assistance of ATS, deployed technical surveillance and tracked the suspect to Colvale. He was taken into custody at approximately 8 pm.

An ATS official stated that the accused was handed over to Colvale police, as he was detained within their jurisdiction. Authorities in Goa are coordinating with Mumbai police for further legal proceedings.

Police sources revealed that the accused has been residing in Goa with his family for the past four years. Investigations are underway to ascertain the motive behind the hoax call.
