'Suranganni' musical evening by Sur Sobhann students at Kalaangann on Feb 2

Mangaluru, Jan 30: The 278th programme of Mandd Sobhann's monthly theatre series will be held at Kalaangann in Shaktinagar on February 2 at 6:30 pm. At the event, 70 students of Sur Sobhann vocal training programme will perform. The programme will be inaugurated by young singer Rishal Melba Crasta, who was recently crowned the winner of Super Singer Season 5.

Sur Sobhann classes are being conducted under the leadership of Sumell, the singing club of Mandd Sobhann, since last August. Shilpa Tejaswini Cutinha, who has a degree in Hindustani music and has made a significant mark in Konkani music, is the chief instructor.

She has formally taught the students the classical discipline and techniques of singing, including notes, voice control among others. They have learned the fundamental elements of the Hindustani music such as alankars, aroha, avaroha, thaat, taal, and ragas like bhoop, brindavani, sarang, bhairav, bibhas, bihag, jeevan puri, kafi, patdeep, yaman and bhageshree. Similarly, various styles of Konkani singing, such as lullabies, gumott, wedding voviyos, dekhnni and manddo have been taught with the assistance of singers Dealle D’Souza, Irene Rebello, and Jasmin Lobo.

The children will perform 10 songs they have learned, and their parents will present 1 song. Fourteen students will compare the programme. The band will include young musicians Russell Rodrigues, Ashwil Colaco, Senora Cutinha, Glennon Dsouza, and Sharvin Pinto. The programme is open to all.
