Mangaluru, Jan 30: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in collaboration with St Aloysius Deemed University, organized Gandhi Smriti and the book launch of Mahatma Gandhi by Prof Steven Quadros Permude. The event took place at the university auditorium on January 30, with great enthusiasm.
Dr Praveen Martis, vice-chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed University, addressed the gathering as the chief guest, emphasizing that Gandhiji’s principles continue to serve as a guiding light in all aspects of life.
Dr Ganapathi Gowda, principal of Mangalore University College, also graced the occasion as a chief guest. He presented an extensive paper on Mahatma Gandhi’s life philosophy and its literary significance.
George S Fernandes, president of Milagres Credit Cooperative Society, which supported the book’s publication, highlighted that Gandhiji’s ideals remain a constant source of inspiration. Dr Alwyn D'Sa introduced the book, stressing the need for its wider reach and readership.
Academy president Joachim Stany Alvares, who presided over the function, spoke about the rising divisive ideologies in society and stressed that Gandhiji’s teachings are essential for fostering national unity and brotherhood.
Academy registrar Rajesh G welcomed the gathering, while the author, Prof Steven Quadros, expressed his gratitude to all. The event was coordinated by faculty member Flora Castelino, and college students rendered the national anthem to conclude the programme.
