Udupi, Jan 29: “St Mary’s Spell Bee,” organized to foster the linguistic talents of students at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, was a grand success, culminating in an award ceremony held on January 28, at the school premises.

Fr Charles Menezes, correspondent, presided over the program along with other dignitaries.

Addressing the young linguistic talents and their parents, Fr Charles Menezes emphasized the importance of learning spellings and the English language in daily life, especially in a multilingual environment. He encouraged students to enhance their pronunciation through various means.

The program began with a prayer, followed by a graceful welcome dance. Spell Bee champions from Grade 1 to 12 were appreciated and awarded cash prizes, trophies, and certificates.

Joshua D’Almeida of Grade 10 and Ayesha Isra of Grade 12 shared their experiences of participating in the competition, inspiring fellow students.

The dedicated Spell Bee coordinators—Helen Cornelio, Cybil Soans, Usha Hegde, and Eunice Anchan—were felicitated for their efforts in organizing the competition. The event was skillfully anchored by Ries D’Souza and Brahmi Naika of Grade 8. Helen Cornelio delivered a warm welcome, while Head Girl Purvi S Kotian proposed the vote of thanks.
