Bengaluru, Jan 27: BJP Opposition leader in the Assembly R Ashoka has blamed the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government for the mess over the loan recovery and harassment of the people by the Micro Finance Companies.
Addressing a news conference in Vidhana Soudha on Monday, he said the failure of the government in not releasing loans as promised earlier was the reason for the people approaching micro finance companies for credit and their harassment over the recovery of loans at exorbitant interest rates had led to the people committing suicides.
If the government had released loans from different corporations, the present sorry state of affairs of people committing suicides unable to bear the harassment over recovery of loans would not have arisen, he alleged.
Ashoka claimed that the Congress government had slashed the allocations to Dr B R Ambedkar Development Corporation for the Ganga Kalyana Scheme and the Karnataka Adi Jambava Development Corporation’s self-employment scheme. The credit flow from Marashi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation had been suspended due to corruption.
The various development corporations have been subjected to slashing of funds to the tune of Rs 1,055 crore, he said pointing out that the government has deliberately reduced the allocations year after year unlike the BJP government in the past.
