Mangaluru, Jan 20: A guest lecture on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace (POSH) Act was held at St Agnes College in the A2 auditorium in the afternoon. The session, exclusively for students of the Arts stream, was delivered by Dr Deviprabha, a distinguished expert in legal and workplace ethics.
The primary objective of the session was to enhance students' understanding of the key provisions and legal framework of the POSH Act. It aimed to familiarize attendees with various forms of sexual harassment in the workplace, prevention strategies, the role of the internal complaints committee (ICC), and the legal remedies available to victims.
Dr Deviprabha provided a comprehensive overview of the POSH Act, emphasizing its importance in fostering a safe and respectful workplace environment. She elaborated on the different forms of sexual harassment, including verbal, physical, and psychological abuse, and supported her points with real-life examples.
The session also highlighted the vital role of the ICC, detailing its functions, responsibilities, and the investigation process, along with the significance of confidentiality in handling complaints. Legal remedies, including both civil and criminal actions available to victims, were also discussed in depth.
The event began with a warm welcome address by Rajwa, followed by Dr R Nagesh presenting a floral welcome to Dr Deviprabha. The audience actively engaged in the discussion, posing relevant questions and expressing their concerns. The interactive session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Nishath from III BA.
The lecture proved to be an enlightening experience, equipping students with critical knowledge about workplace safety and empowering them to be proactive advocates for a harassment-free environment.
