BCCI to felicitate ICC chairman Jay Shah at special general meeting

Mumbai, Jan 10: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will felicitate International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah during its special general meeting on January 12, according to board sources. Shah, who took over as ICC chairman on December 1, will not participate in the meeting but will be honoured for his contributions.

The special general meeting will also witness the election of a new BCCI secretary and treasurer.

Jay Shah, previously BCCI secretary, has a rich legacy in cricket administration, beginning with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) in 2009. Under his leadership, projects like the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket stadium, came to fruition.

Shah also oversaw India’s successful hosting of the 2023 Cricket World Cup. In a significant decision under his ICC chairmanship, the champions trophy 2025 hosting rights issue was resolved, confirming Pakistan and a neutral venue as co-hosts. A hybrid model for India-Pakistan matches at ICC events (2024–27 cycle) was also introduced, ensuring games are played at neutral venues during tournaments in India or Pakistan.

Additionally, the meeting marks a transition for Ashish Shelar, former BCCI treasurer, who recently became a member of legislative assembly in Maharashtra after the Mahayuti alliance's victory in state elections.
