Puttur, Jan 9: A fire caused by an electrical short circuit gutted household items at a house in Alangaru on Tuesday night.

The mishap occurred at the residence of Vinoda in Nekkiladi, Alangaru. Electrical appliances, clothing, and gold ornaments were completely destroyed in the fire.

Vinoda, who resides in a small tiled house with her two children after the passing of her husband, had gone to attend a school day program along with her children on the evening of the incident. Around 8 pm, locals noticed smoke emanating from the house. They alerted Vinoda, broke open the door, and attempted to extinguish the fire using water. However, by the time the flames were contained, most of the household belongings were reduced to ashes.

Fortunately, the clothes worn by the family and those left to dry after washing remained intact.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
