FSG dismisses rumours of Liverpool FC sale to Elon Musk

Liverpool, Jan 8: Fenway Sports Group (FSG), owners of Liverpool FC since 2010, have dismissed claims that they are in talks to sell the club to billionaire Elon Musk. Speculation emerged after Musk’s father, Errol Musk, hinted at his son’s interest in buying the Reds during a radio interview.

While Errol Musk mentioned that Elon had ‘expressed a desire’ to acquire the club, reports from The Times confirm that there has been ‘no contact’ between Musk and FSG. Journalist Matt Lawton also stated that insiders are not taking such rumours seriously, emphasizing that FSG has no intention to engage in discussions regarding a sale.

Errol Musk elaborated on the family’s connection to Liverpool, citing his mother’s birthplace and ties to the city’s iconic Beatles as reasons for their attachment to the club. However, he clarified that Elon’s interest did not necessarily translate into action.

This update will likely reassure many Liverpool supporters, as Musk’s ownership could clash with Merseyside's cultural values. Musk, founder of Tesla and owner of X (formerly Twitter), has been associated with far-right political viewpoints, a stance misaligned with Liverpool's ethos.

Forbes valued Liverpool FC at £4.2 billion in May 2024, making it the fourth-most valuable football club globally. Despite earlier exploration of a sale by FSG in 2022, those plans have since been abandoned, affirming their continued commitment to the club.
