Bengaluru, Jan 6: With the detection of two cases of HMPV, that originally surfaced in China, in Karnataka, the State Government has swung into action and is taking precautionary steps to check the spread of the virus.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who held a review meeting with Health Department officials in Vikasa Soudha in Bengaluru on Monday, confirmed the detection of two cases of HMPV in Karnataka.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting along with Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and Medical Education Minister Dr Sharana Ptakash Patil, the Chief Minister said that the State Government will shortly announce the precautionary measures, including screening of passengers at Airports.

The Health and Medical Education Minister will hold separate meetings to finalise the steps to be taken. Answering questions, he said the government was hopeful of Naxalists surrendering paying heed to his appeal.

Responding to JD(S) leader and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s charge that corruption in the distribution of houses to the poor has touched 60%, the chief minister demanded that the JD(S) leader must provide proof instead of merely making tall claims.

He pointed out that the 40% commission charge against the BJP regime was made by State Contractors Association president Kempaiah, who had directly sent the complaint to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We know the kind of action that the Modi government took and now that Kumaraswamy is in the Modi government, let him pursue the complaint,” he said.
