Sullia, Jan 6: The Kirushashti car festival was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm at the Mahatobhara Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple on Sunday.

Scores of devotees participated in the event, raising religious slogans as the deity was taken in a grand procession. The chariot route was beautifully adorned with leaves, tender coconuts, areca nuts, plantain bunches, and vibrant electrical decorations.

Chief priest Vedamurthy Seetharama Edapadithaya performed the pooja after placing the deity on the chariot. The idol was then carried in a procession from Car Street to Kashikatte. Pooja was later conducted at Kirushashti Katte near Sawari Mantapa. The festivities included Palaki Utsava and Bandi Utsava, which were performed in the outer courtyard of the temple.

Kirushashti is unique for its twin Utsavas. Following the car festival, various musical performances were held. The night concluded with the Mahapooja, followed by another round of Devara Bandi, Palaki Utsava, and musical celebrations.
