Kasargod: Bengali Youngster Mass-raped, Deserted by Gang

Kasargod, Dec 28: In an incident that occurred at Iritty in neighbouring Kannur district, a girl from West Bengal was mass-raped by a gang of friends, before deserting her by the side of the road. The policemen, who swung into action, succeeded in arresting four accused, P C Biju (17) from Ulakkal, Mohammed Shariff (27), N I Jamsheer from Nannipara, and Mohammed Swalahi (22).

The girl had come here from West Bengal, in search of her longtime lover, who was working here. However, their meeting did not materialize, and the girl learnt that her lover had started working in Vijajpet in Kodagu district. She then reached a spot near Perambaty check post to catch a bus to Virajpet, when the above accused, who arrived in a lorry, forcibly took her away. After the mass rape, they threw the lady by the roadside, and escaped.

The policemen, who rushed to the scene, succeeded in tracing the culprits. The girl, who has been physically and mentally drained, has been admitted into the government hospital in Iritty.
