Mangaluru, Dec 25: The CEN (Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics) police here arrested an individual in connection with a cyber-fraud case.
The accused, Akash A (22) from Kerala, was arrested for impersonating a representative of a company named ‘Troy’ and extorting a significant sum under false pretenses.
Akash posed as a ‘Troy’ representative and contacted the victim, claiming that an additional mobile number in the victim’s name was being used for illegal activities in Mumbai's Andheri area. Using scare tactics and the pretext of "digital arrest," he coerced the victim into transferring Rs 1.71 crore in multiple installments. Following a detailed investigation, the police tracked and apprehended Akash in Kerala.
The investigation further revealed that Akash had used his bank account for cybercrime activities.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of police commissioner Anupam Agarwal, DCPs Siddharth Goyal and Ravishanker, and was led by ACP Ravish Nayak and CEN station inspector Satish M P.
