Bantwal, Dec 24: Former minister and president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, R V Deshpande, took part in the concluding ritual of Vajapeya Somayaga that was being held at Nandagokula cow shelter near Narahari Parvata in the taluk since the last 28 days, on Friday December 23.
He was given a warm reception by president of Yaga Committee and MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dakshina Kannada district BJP committee president, K Padmanabha Kottary, committee secretary, Jitendra Kottary, and others. Deshpande offered Havis (burnt offering at oblation) at the Yaga, held consultations with Brahmarshi K S Nityananda, who is providing guidance to the rituals, and partook Prasadam, before leaving the venue.
During the visit, Deshpande was accompanied by former MLA, Vijay Kumar Shetty.
He explained to the press persons, surprised by his presence at the Yaga being led by RSS leader, Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, that he had come here to witness this rare Yaga that is aimed at achieving the general welfare of the people, and to pay obeisance to and get blessings from the Lord and priests. “No politics is involved in my visit here,” he stressed.
When the media persons tried to elicit his response about the present political developments in the state, Deshpande reiterated that he does not want to speak about politics, as he was here to pay respects to the divine.
Main celebrant, Dr Yaji Niranjan Bhat, K S Subrahmanya, committee vice president, S N Padiyar, general secretary, Dr Sonda Bhaskar Bhat, former MLA, A Rukmaya Poojary, and others were present at the Yaga venue.
