KSRTC to begin trial bus service between Mangaluru and Karkala from Dec 12

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 11: Responding to public demand, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has decided to launch a trial bus service between Mangaluru and Karkala starting December 12.

The demand for government buses on this route intensified after the state government introduced the Shakti scheme. In light of this, MLC Ivan D’Souza recently held discussions with the deputy commissioner, RTO, and KSRTC officials to address the issue.

Following these discussions, the RTO has granted a temporary permit for four months, enabling KSRTC to operate buses on this route. The buses will run from the KSRTC bus station at Bejai in Mangaluru via Nanthoor, Gurpur, Kaikamba, Moodbidri, and finally to Karkala. Two buses will operate from Mangaluru and two from Karkala.

KSRTC officials have stated that the timetable for the service is yet to be finalized. During the Regional Transport Authority meeting last month, KSRTC had proposed the service, but private bus operators raised objections.

The private bus operators have sought a 15-day period to file their objections with the Regional Transport Authority. Meanwhile, KSRTC divisional controller Rajesh argued that the demand for eight trips between Mangaluru and Karkala has been partially met by approving three trips.

He also pointed out that under the Central Government’s Area Scheme regulations and Chapter 5 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the transport authority has the power to grant permits for new routes.

MLC Ivan D’Souza emphasized that the government has been requested to introduce similar bus services to other areas in need in the coming days.

This must have started long long before, if so many peoples life would have been saved. It is horrible during peak hours, specially for students and family to travel in private buses. If you board in starting point you are lucky else standing from Mangalore to Karkala and vice versa. Thanks to the authorities who initiated this.

There should be a few buses plying via Bajpe, Kateel and Kinigoli too. It is not necessary that KSRTC should also follow the same private bus routes.

Good news for passengers travelling between Mangaluru to Karkala despite opposition from private bus owners. There is a great demand for Mangaluru to Udupi Express bus service but the Government is hesitating for the bus service between the two districts!!! Of course private bus owners lobby hard NOT to start government buses in this route as they loose business and offer Politicians bounty. The Political leaders of all parties mum on this issue and the public is facing many difficulties. Often travel is very risky in this route as rash driving and competition between private buses to pick passengers. If the Political leaders wish definitely they can start KSRTC buses between these cities and passengers will feel safe travel.

The Mangalore-Udupi route has been unfairly ignored, leaving commuters with limited and unsafe travel options. The discontinuation of the KSRTC Volvo service has further aggravated the issue. Introducing government buses on this route is crucial to provide safe, reliable, and affordable transportation for the public. Currently, the dominance of private buses, coupled with their reckless driving and disregard for traffic rules, poses a serious risk to passengers and other road users. Reinstating KSRTC services would not only ensure safer travel but also regulate the monopoly of private operators, fostering better competition and service quality. Authorities must act urgently to address this pressing need.
