Moodbidri: Students from 101 Universities Arrive for National Sports Meet

Moodbidri, Dec 18: Moodbidri Swarajya Maidan which came into the spotlight due to the Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana that was once organized here, witnessed yet another milestone with student representatives and officers from 101 universities across the nation participating in the All India Inter-university sports event inaugurated on Saturday December 17.
The event has been organised with the support of Dr Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation.
Various cultural troupes performing ‘karaga’, ‘gombe nrithya’, ‘aati kalanja’, ‘chende’, ‘pooja kunitha’, ‘parijaatha kunitha’, ‘dollu kunitha’, and tiger dances were curiously watched by the students from various parts of the country.
Captain Ganesh Karnic inaugurated the march-past. MLA K Abhayachandra Jain and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel waved the flags. Alva’s students were in tri-color creating a mesmerizing scene.
On Saturday morning, the 5,000 meter running race was inaugurated. Sooryaprakash, vice-chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, received the honor at the hour long march past. A total of 14 universities from Karnataka, 30 from UP, 9 from Maharashtra, 9 from Goa, and 20 from Andhra Pradesh participated.
CM Sadananda Gowda is expected to take part at the valedictory ceremony on Tuesday December 20.
