Bantwal: Bus Tumbles into Gorge - Ten Suffer Serious Injuries

Bantwal, Dec 16: Ten passengers of a private bus suffered serious injuries, after the bus in which they were travelling plunged into a ten-feet deep gorge by the roadside at Neerapalke, Panjikallu village in the taluk, on Thursday December 15 evening. They were admitted into different hospitals.
The injured have been identified as Jinnappa Gowda (60) from Rayi village, Celine Sequeira (35), wife of Gilbert Sequiera from Neerapalke, and her daughter, Jonita Sequiera (10), Joel Sequeira (16), son of Thomas Sequeira from Neerapalke, Maharoof (15), son of D Majeed from Loretto Padavu, and Sujaya (35), an employee of government high school in Panjikal. While Jinnappa was admitted into a private hospital in B C Road, the others were taken to Mangalore for advanced treatment.
Pratima (30), wife of Prakash from Panjikallu Haller, and Nalini (31), wife of Dakayya from Acharipalke, were admitted into government hospital here, as their injuries are not of serious nature. Several others were provided first aid, as they had suffered only some nicks and cuts.
It is said that the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving the vehicle to B C Road from Panjikallu Acharipalke. The bus was full of women and children, who were returning from school. Janardhana, who had come in place of the permanent driver of the bus, went missing from the spot. Local leaders and others helped in transporting injured people to hospitals immediately.
A case was registered in rural police station here. The police have started investigation.
