Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Nov 5: The forest department has placed a cage near Devaragundi Sankada Kere, close to Elathur Temple near Kinnigoli, in an effort to trap a leopard spotted in the area.

Two days ago, the leopard attacked Ligory Pereira (58), an agriculturist from Elathur Kalkare, while he was cutting grass. Following the incident, locals filed a complaint with the forest department, urging action.

Moodbidri forest zone officer Nagesh Billava visited the location and arranged for a cage to be set up. Pereira, who sustained injuries in the leopard attack, is currently recovering in the hospital.

Social worker Prasad Elathur noted that leopard sightings have become frequent in Elathur and surrounding areas, causing local farmers and motorists to feel unsafe, particularly at night.
