Mangaluru, Nov 3: Police have cracked a significant cheating racket by arresting two individuals accused of defrauding e-commerce giant Amazon.
The arrested individuals are identified as Rajkumar Meena (23) and Subhash Gurjar (27), both from Rajasthan. They are alleged to have engaged in extensive fraud against Amazon across 10 states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Karnataka, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
City police commissioner Anupam Agarwal described the arrest as a major breakthrough. A case has been registered at Urwa police station, revealing that the accused allegedly placed fake orders totaling Rs 11.45 lac.
The accused reportedly used a fictitious address near the KSRTC bus stand and the fake name 'Amit' to order high-value items like cameras. Once the items were delivered, Meena collected them and provided the OTP while Gurjar distracted the delivery person. They then swapped the tracking labels from valuable Sony camera boxes onto similar, low-value camera boxes, causing delays in delivery due to incorrect OTPs.
They would retain the valuable items for resale and discard the SIM card used for ordering after each delivery. Once the returned items reached Amazon’s warehouse, the fraud was discovered.
Their scheme was exposed when they cancelled an order for a high-value camera. Amazon’s distribution partner grew suspicious and, upon inspection, found swapped stickers on the camera boxes. The duo had retained the valuable cameras, returning boxes with low-value cameras instead.
Urwa police have confiscated Rs 11.45 lac, which the duo accumulated through these fraudulent activities. Meena was taken into custody on October 18. Following his interrogation, Gurjar was arrested in Mangaluru on October 28. Both face similar cases in Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
