Mangaluru: Long-awaited road development work begins to enhance access to railway station

Mangaluru, Oct 12: The long-awaited road development project is finally underway to improve access to Mangaluru Junction railway station, addressing the challenges posed by a narrow 100-meter stretch connecting Naguri to the station.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station project, the road leading to Mangaluru Junction, developed a few years ago, is wide near Naguri but narrows as it approaches the station. This design has caused difficulties for heavy vehicles making turns, while two-wheelers, autorickshaws, and cars navigate the road more easily.

Despite requests from the railway passengers’ welfare committee to widen the road, this demand could not be fulfilled due to land availability issues. Now, a project is underway to construct a stretch of road on the left side after convincing local residents.

Nearly 30 cents of land has been acquired through TDR from locals, and leveling work is already complete, though concrete work is still pending.

Currently, a well-equipped concrete road connects Bajal to the railway station, allowing most vehicles, including buses, to access the station. If the Naguri connection road is built, it will make it easier for the public to approach the railway station.

Additionally, development work at the junction railway station is progressing rapidly, with various improvements underway, including a new parking lot, entrance doors, and waiting rooms for passengers. All projects are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Although you are doing a lot of work for beautification many of the stations on the konkan Railway does not have a proper 2nd platform. I am a frequent traveller to Kumta and only God knows how people get down if the train comes in the second platform. Till date as per my knowledge nothing had been done and the plight of senior citizens, pregnant women and patients are miserable if the train comes to the 2nd platform. There are some other stations also like this . The higher ups keep their eyes closed orbis it a political drama
