Puttur: Three Arrested for Murderous Assault

Puttur, Nov 29: Relating to an incident in which a truck was intercepted and its driver, Shariff, was dragged out and assaulted at Addahole near Shiradi in the taluk on Sunday November 27, the policemen of Uppinangady station have arrested three persons. The vehicle used by the accused for the act has also been confiscated.

The arrested men have been identified as Abdul Sattar from Karvelu in Biliyoor village, Ashraf from Karvelu Palya in Nekkiladi village, and Sattar from Biliyoor village.

Uppinangady sub-inspector of police, G T Dasari, said that the accused were arrested on Monday from Subrahmanya Road. He said that two other accused, Rahim and Iqbal, have absconded.

A case was registered against five persons, who were accused of coming in a Toofan vehicle, stopping the truck Shariff was driving, and going away after grievously injuring and dumping him into a roadside drain. Reportedly, Shariff, who owns a Scorpio vehicle, had rented his vehicle to one of the accused, Rahim, a few days back. Rahim failed to pay vehicle hire charges. On Sunday night, Rahim stopped his truck at Karvelu, and visited Rahim, and questioned him about non-payment of dues. Angered by this act, Rahim reportedly gathered his friends, followed Rahim in  a vehicle, and beat him up.
