Puttur: St Philomena College (Autonomous) celebrates ‘Hindi Divas’ with cultural flair

Puttur, Sep 28: The Hindi department at St Philomena College (Autonomous), observed Hindi Divas on Friday at the SJM Hall of the college with a blend of cultural reverence and academic discussions, featuring the significance of Hindi language in modern India.

Dr Kalpana Prabhu, professor from Canara College, Mangaluru, graced the event as the chief guest. After a ceremonious felicitation to Dr Prabhu, who had been the president of Mangalore University Hindi Adhyapak Sangh for three consecutive years, delivered an enlightening speech detailing the historical evolution of Hindi Divas and the key role of Hindi in fostering cultural unity across India. She emphasized the innumerable career opportunities available to those proficient in Hindi, from academia to the booming entertainment industry.

The event was presided over by Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of the college, who inspired the students with his compelling message about the vitality of linguistic diversity and the pursuit of excellence in Hindi. He encouraged students to harness their creativity and linguistic skills to excel in their respective spheres.

Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, vice principal of the college was gracefully present on the dais along with student coordinators Kalandar Sabith and Jhanavi.

Highlighting the festive spirit, the department organized various language-centric competitions, showcasing the forceful enthusiasm and impressive proficiency among the students. The standout performers were duly recognized with awards. Two final-year students, Delvin and Hawra, shared narratives about their linguistic journeys, shedding light on the personal and professional impacts of learning Hindi.

Aishwarya and her team rendered prayer. Uma Alva welcomed, Dr Dimple J Fernandes, head of the Hindi department, introduced the chief guest, Sanjana and Kanees compered formal programme.

The celebration culminated with a series of cultural performances adding a festive finale to a day dedicated to cultural appreciation and academic enrichment.
