Mangaluru, Sep 27: Dakshina Kannada district panchayat school education department (Mangaluru North Zone) and St Aloysius College Higher Primary School organized district level swimming competition on September 25 St Aloysius Swimming Pool. The event saw an enthusiastic participation from multiple schools across the district.
The inauguration of the event took place in the St Aloysius College Primary School auditorium. It commenced with the State Anthem. Fr Johnson Pinto SJ, the correspondent of the school, presided over the event. The chief guest for the occasion was James Cutinho, block education officer, Mangaluru North Zone.
Other dignitaries present on the dais included Taluk-level physical education officer Bharath, Cheluvamma, Grade-1 physical director officer, Lokraj Vittal, chief referee, headmistress Jositta Noronha, PTA vice president Victor Serrao, president of the alumni association Christopher D’Souza and We One Aqua Centre in charge Naveen and Roopa Prabhu.
The headmistress, Jositta Noronha warmly welcomed the dignitaries, competitors, benefactors, teachers, parents and students. The event was formally inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
During his address, the chief guest, James Cutinho, praised St Aloysius Primary School for its initiative in organizing the competition. He emphasized the importance of swimming as a valuable exercise for both mental and physical health.
Taluk-level physical education officer Bharath, in his speech, highlighted the importance of both education and sports in a student's life. He also honored Fr Johnson Pinto SJ and Headmistress Jositta Noronha with certificate of appreciation for their efforts in organizing the competition.
In his speech, Fr Johnson Pinto SJ encouraged the students to embrace swimming, an exercise benefiting physical fitness.
The event was also attended by prominent guests including Lilly Pais, president of the Karnataka State Physical Education Teachers Association, Harish Rai, secretary of District Physical Education Teachers Association and Bhuvanesh, District physical education officer.
The competition featured exciting contests across multiple categories and the results were as follows:
Individual championship (under-14 boys): Likith Ramachandra (Vivekananda English Medium School) and Abhishek (Alva’s Kannada Medium School)
Overall championship (under-14 boys): St Aloysius College Higher Primary School
Individual championship (under-14 girls): Prapthi Jaya Prashanth (Lady Hill English Medium Higher Primary School) and Sharvya (St Joseph English Medium School, Kulshekar)
Overall championship (under-14 girls): Lady Hill English Higher Primary School
Individual championship (under-17 boys): Grahith G Prabhu and Yashas (St Aloysius High School, Kodialbail), Pratheek Jaya Prashanth (St Aloysius English Medium School, Urwa)
Overall championship (under-17 boys): St Aloysius High School
Individual championship (under-17 girls): Mithali Bhat and Rianna Dhrithi Fernandes (Victoria High School, Lady Hill)
Overall championship (under-17 girls): Victoria High School, Lady Hill.
The programme was compered by Liya D’Souza and the vote of thanks was delivered by Poornima Bhat.
The event concluded on a high note, with the students, teachers and parents expressing their appreciation for the meticulous organization and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by all participants.
