Mangalore: Thieves Target Jewellery Stores, Loot Ornaments Worth Rs 20 Lac

Mangalore, Nov 24: Thieves entered two jewellery shops located on Hari Bhat Road in Haleangady Olapete in the taluk in the early hours on Thursday November 24, and decamped with silverware and gold ornaments totally worth about Rs 20 lac.

Sridurga Jewellers and Padmashree Jewellers were the targets of these thefts. Reportedly, owners of Sridurga jewellers lost valuables worth Rs 15 lac including 15 kg of silver and two gold chains.

The estimated loss suffered by Padmashree Jewellers has been estimated at about four lac rupees, comprising four kg of silver and other valuables.

Station house officer of Mulky, Basheer Ahmed, who rushed to the spot after receiving intimation, has estimated that the theft occurred between 2 and 3 am on Thursday.

A case has been registered in Mulky police station. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were summoned to help investigations. So far, there are no clues about the perpetrators of these thefts, it is learnt.

    while these people living abroad..they are suggesting all safety equipments available over there...do you know how the jewellery stores survive with little profit...will they can manage with CCTV...??? just check at least there shutters they are unable to change with new!!! what ever it may be still they are surviving..!! don't comment blindly..

    Jawar D'Souza, M'lore/Doha your sugesstion is very valid in Qatar or in some Metros in India . Place like this , even if they have high tech alarm system , who will arrive the spot in 2-5 minutes.2ndly if Police stations are not equipped to support alarm sustem , wats the use of providing hi hech security system.

    It is not a joke to leave jeweler shop unattended and unsecured .Time and again police officers are warning to Jewelers to take extra care under the circumstances.The skyrocketing of Gold price is really attractive(for thieves) to hunt for GOLD HEIST.Who should be blamed for this incident-Police?Jewelers?.I think such kind of Gold heist is more in the pipeline of thieves so that Jewelers and Police department need to sit together to chart out the security measures.

    A simplest way to catch the thief is to fix a hidden camera somewhere outside the jewelry shops around the city, like on the electric poles, trees or inside the bulket of opposite side buildings. Because jewelry shops are 100% target for the theft. Camera must be miniature camera not a cc tv camera, cc tv camera can be easily rectified. Miniature cameras are so tiny they can be hidden inside the timepiece watches or tv set and even cap(hat).

    Cant they fix some sort of alarm when the shutter is broken, instead of loosing 20lakhs it better to spend some lacs on security and alarm systems. May be a heavy safe box which cannot be lifted by 6 to seven people, its better to concrete it to the ground.
