Mangaluru: Technical experts inspect Maravoor bridge

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 18: A team of technical experts from Bengaluru inspected the Maravoor bridge on Tuesday as part of an assessment of bridges in the district deemed unsafe for traffic.

Vehicular movement on the Maravoor bridge has been restricted since June 14 due to damage to one of the pillars of the old bridge. The technical team, which had already inspected the Polali, Ulaiyibettu, and Balkunje bridges, conducted a detailed examination of the Maravoor bridge as well.

Using a large crane, the experts accessed the underside of the bridge and collected concrete samples from the pillars and girders to assess the bridge’s structural integrity. The team will submit their report to the deputy commissioner, who will then decide whether to reopen the bridge for traffic or initiate repairs, according to an official from the public works department.

Where's the control on sand mining ? We stupidly & carelessly vote for Delhi based political parties who have absolutely no interest in our well-being. Our people's representatives have mostly been doing time pass by playing identity all these decades. We are seeing the results of their neglect that is threatening our existence and prosperity as Mangaloreans. Don't vote double agents.

The bridge must undergo controlled load test and impact/shock test... This type of eye wash test will result in Kali bridge type of fate... Externally visible corrosion cannot conclude about the core strength of the bridge they must take deep core samples for lab analysis of load bearing/rust extent... This task must be handed over to experts in the field of concrete testing.

Hope these Technical experts inspect Maravoor bridge are not corrupt, as we have constructed a lot of Bridges in and around Mangalore which are not technically in-correct construction. Classic example is the bridge which connect Pannambur from KPT, which is in a pathetic condition. Choose qualified non corrupt engineers please.

Roads and bridges are lifeline of people and economy. The government that collects exorbitant road tax and toll should inspect all bridges periodically older or new . In Gujarat we are seeing within a year roads and bridges are collapsing. Our Engineer division of military has capability to construct temporary bridges with in a day, which can facilitate heavy tanks movement should be called in to construct alternative bridges until repair or construction of new bridges, that way they get training and a revenue should be generated for their expenses and maintenance of such bridges in peace time.
