Mangalore, Nov 21: The impact of the preliminary round and the preparations for the grand finale of Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Konkani Inter- Parish Singing Competition was so much, that the crowd turnout was much more than expected.
Approximately around 1000 Wilfy’s fans witnessed the unique competition, first of its kind in the city.
The programme started at 6 pm. Fr Nelson D’Almeida, parish priest, Jeppu welcomed the gathering and the well renowned judges Fr Denis D’Sa, Joel Pereira and Claud D’souza. Laveena D’Dias, gave a fitting beginning to the competition by singing one of Wilfy’s compositions ‘Gulobachya Fantyak’.
Roveena, from Jeppu parish compared the entire competition with her sweet and commanding voice. The finalists performed as per their expectations and the audiences relished the songs sung by the finalists. Before each song, a video clipping of the contestant with their mentor in the practice session was shown on the projector. The contestant then had to sing one song of their choice accompanied by acoustic guitar and then perform on one music track provided by the organizers.
After lot of speculation, suspense, nail biting and nerve wrecking wait the results of the Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Konkani Inter- Parish Singing Competition was announced. Cordel Parish emerged as the winners of this prestigious trophy.
Merceeta D’souza, Milagres Parish bagged the first prize in Girls Solo 10 – 15 age category. Lisha Pereira, Valencia Parish got the second place.
Gavin Menezes, Derebail Parish took away the first prize in Boys Solo 10 – 15 age category. Dixon Rodrigues, Valencia Parish got the second place.
Stephina Crasta & Merceeta D’souza, Milagres Parish bagged the first place in the Girls Duet 10- 15 age Category. Deora Fernandes & Preemal Seerao, Derebail Parish got the second place.
Frenith D’souza and Samson Coelho, Cascia Parish took away the first place in the Boys Duet 10- 15 age Category. Dixon Rodrigues & Vallen Sequeira, Valencia Parish got the second place.
There was a short break during which Babitha D’Sa brought back old memories of Wilfy Nite by rendering the song ‘Avoi thi Avoi’. An official function followed, where Pamela Santos, Vice-President, Jeppu introduced the judges and Fr. Nelson D’Almeida felicitated them.
In the above 16 age Solo category, it was the voice of Anjali Andrade, Cordel Parish & in the men’s solo the voice of Anil Rupesh D’souza, Cascia Parish who walked away with the first place. The second place went to Denora Fernandes, Derebail Parish in the women’s category and Ashwin D’costa, Cordel Parish in the men’s category.
In the above 16 age mixed duet category, Ashwin D’costa and Anjali Andrade, Cordel Parish won the first place and Denzil & Denora Fernandes, Derebail Parish got the second place.
In the married couple’s category, Anil & Irene D’cunha, Cordel Parish bagged the first place and Vincent & Lara Mathias, Cascia Parish got the second place.
Laveena D’Dias, Secretary, Jeppu Parish in her vote of thanks thanked the parishes who took part in this competition, all the mentors who took pain to train the contestants, the Jeppu Parish committee members who worked to make this competition a grand success.
By setting such a wonderful competition with Wilfy’s compositions, this was the best ever tribute given to Wilfy Rebimbus by Jeppu Parish Priest & Jeppu parishioners. The prize distribution of this competition will be held on 27th November 2011 during the mega event, “Ek Dees Wilfyaba Songhim”.
Under the guidance and able leadership of Fr. Nelson D’Almeida, the Jeppu parishioners have organized “Ek Dees Wilfyaba Songhim” a Day dedicated to Wilfy Rebimbus which will be held on Sunday November 27 at the Church open Grounds. Celebrated for a good cause to raise funds for the medical, educational and housing needs of the less fortunate parishioners.
The parish priest Fr. Nelson D’Almeida appeals to all Wilfy’s fans all over as well as the generous people around to come forward and contribute to this good cause and be a part of this celebration as an honor to this Great Singing Legend who throughout his life tenure had contributed his talent for the good causes of our society. This evening is planned in a unique style. The people of city are invited to be a part of the evening and witness “Ek Dees Wilfyaba Songhim”.
