Kolkata, Jan 21: In a shocking development, the investigation into the rape and murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor at Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital has taken a new twist. A recent report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) revealed the presence of an unexpected female DNA sample alongside the convict Sanjay Roy’s, raising concerns over possible contamination during the autopsy.

The report, presented in court, states that while the majority of DNA samples from the victim and Roy were clear, a small percentage of female DNA was found in swabs taken from the victim’s body, including anal and nipple swabs. The presence of this unknown DNA has led to speculation that another woman may have been involved in the crime. However, some experts argue that the DNA could have been the result of mishandling during the autopsy, which was conducted under poor infrastructure and questionable conditions.

Court proceedings revealed that proper protocols were not followed, with allegations that the post-mortem tools were not sterilized, and gloves were not changed during the procedure. These lapses in procedure have led the court to question the integrity of the evidence and the investigation process.

Despite the controversy, Sanjay Roy, a former civic police volunteer, was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the crime, with the court deciding that it did not meet the criteria for the death penalty. However, the victim's family is pushing for a re-investigation, citing concerns that another woman may have been involved in the crime but was deliberately kept hidden from the public eye.

As the case unfolds, many are calling for a deeper investigation into the mishandling of evidence and the conditions at the post-mortem center, raising important questions about justice, accountability, and transparency in such high-profile cases.
