Mangalore, Nov 17: ‘Walkathon 2011’ was held recently in the city as a part of Children's Day by the Mangalore Ladies Circle 82.
The walkathon had children from classes 5 to 8 of various prestigious schools in the city. The enthusiastic students, along with teachers and parents came in large numbers to support the cause of MLC82.
The chief guest for the function was MLA Yogish Bhat. Area chairman of round table Mukesh Lund, and Raman Garla were the guests of honour. Members of Mangalore Round Table 115, Mangalore Coastal Round Table 190, and 41ers, were present on the occasion.
The three kilometer walk commenced from Kadri Park, through Bejai and Lalbagh before concluding at Mangala Stadium where breakfast was served to the participants. MLC82 hopes to make this an annual event with the co-operation of generous Mangaloreans.
The proceeds of the walkathon will go to needy children. MLC82 is an affiliate of Ladies Circle International, a non-political and non-sectarian organization comprising of wives of members of Round Table which strives to serve under privileged children.
