Mangalore, Nov 7: A number of places in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu districts received rain along with thunder and lightning on Sunday November 6. Lightning inflicted heavy losses in a number of places.
A woman from Kellaputtige village near Moodbidri died due to lightning on Sunday afternoon. Kamala (50), wife of Koragappa Poojary of Barkemane in the village, was cooking lunch, when lightning struck. She suffered shocks in the incident, and died on way to the hospital. Other members of the family remained unaffected. A report was registered in Moodbidri police station. Two persons were injured, nine houses were damaged, and 22 coconut trees were destroyed due to lightning in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts on Sunday.
The meteorological department is closely looking at the chances of the clouds that have formed over Bay of Bengal reaching the shores of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. It expects a number of places to experience rain coupled with lightning in coastal belt during the next 24 hours. Other regions in the state will see marked decrease in rainfall, it said.
