Puttur, Nov 5: With time, Areca nut is witnessing a steady rise in its value in the market here. Old areca nut is purchased for Rs 200/kg and new one’s are for 190Rs/kg. In two month’s time, this is the second time the rise is seen.
The first such a huge rise was witnessed on September 21, where the old areca nut was priced for Rs200/kg and the new one’s for Rs190/kg. This first increment was said to be the record in the history of the market price.
The rise in the price today is supported by The Central Areca nut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative (camco), one of the popular co-operative organizations. They have bought the old areca nut for Rs197/Kg and new one’s for 187/kg.
Even in Vittal, Puttut, Kadabha, Uppinangadi and Nellyadi the same areca nut is purchased for the same price. According to the Farmer’s desire, the steady rise is witnessed. The rise in the price is seen since the farmers refused to sell the areca nut without any increment, reports said.
Dr Vishweshwar Varmudi, an agricultural expert, said again the rise will be seen in the near future and advised the farmers to make use of the rise in the price of areca nut.
