Mangalore, Nov 5: Scholar and well-known writer, Dr Taltaje Vasant Kumar, has been chosen as the president of Kannada district Sahitya Sammelan scheduled to be held on November 18 and 19 at Alike in Bantwal taluk. This was stated by Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.
Dr Taltaje, a native of Uppinangady, worked as the professor and head of department of Kannada in University of Mumbai for several years. Before moving to University of Mumbai, he had worked as Kannada professor in Vivekananda College Puttur, for 15 years. He has in-depth interest and worked hard, in the study of Kannada poetry, folklore, cultural study, and literature in Halegannada etc.
A number of works written by Taltaje spanning over different subjects like review, novel, research, etc have been published. 17 persons secured doctorate under his guidance, while 18 received M Phil degrees.
Dr Taltaje, after retirement, has settled down near Uppinangady. He has received numerous awards including Gorur Literary Award, Kantavara Award, Gurunarayana Award, and Sediyapu Award.
