Mangalore, Nov 5: Unknown miscreants set fire to the office of ABC Friends Circle located at Tokkottu Volapete Church Road near here in the early morning on Saturday November 5.
The office serves as a centre for the local youth, who come together for various causes including recreation and social service.
It is gathered that three persons, who arrived at the spot in a motor bike, started the fire by pouring kerosene. A night beat watchman, who keeps vigil over about 200 shops and other establishments in the area, observed the mischief from a distance, and raised an alarm. The threesome fled the scene immediately. It was seen that a pair of footwear found at the entrance to the office was also put on fire.
The watchman alerted people over phone, and soon a number of people congregated. They succeeded in dousing the fire before it could endanger about 15 to 20 offices and shops located in the building, and three houses in the backside.
It is said that about two weeks ago, some unknown people had deposited sticky oil refuse normally found in garages, at the door of the said office. It is thought that the same gang was involved with today’s incident.
The incident attracted lot of attention, as people from the locality rushed to the spot in droves after the incident. The policemen visited the spot and registered a case.
