Udupi: Panchayat staff clear debris from barrage in Matapady

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Jul 23: Heavy rains in Udupi have caused rivers and riverbanks to flood. The riverbanks' fields and gardens were submerged, and the overflowing rivers created numerous issues. As the floodwaters recede, the resulting problems are becoming apparent one by one.

The Sita river, flowing through the Brahmavar taluk, completely submerged the barrage in Neelavara village. As the floodwaters receded, large tree trunks, branches, debris, and plastic waste accumulated on the barrage, blocking the water flow.

The Neelavara village panchayat has undertaken the task of cleaning the barrage. As the minor irrigation department clears the debris on the barrage, the water is now flowing smoothly from Neelavara towards Matapadi village. This is not an isolated issue; several panchayats across the district are facing similar problems.
