Mumbai, Oct 27: Hordes of zealous Konkani music lovers thronged ‘Wilfy Nite’ show held at Prabodhan Thakeray Hall at Borivli in the metro, which was organized by Canara Konkani Welfare Association Borivli (Regd) on Wednesday October 26. The show started at 8.15pm, and ended at midnight. In spite of odd timings and abundance of Diwali crackers all over, music lovers filled the 1,100 capacity air-conditioned hall.
The programme started with the short and sweet stage programme. Auxiliary Bishop of Mumbai, Dr Perceval Fernandes, was the chief guest. Priest of church of Immaculate Conception, Fr Vincent
Barboza Borivli, sponsor, Gilbert D'Lima, chairman of the association, Albert Wilfred D'Souza, and vice chairman, George D'Souza, were present at the dais. Secretary, Charles D'Cunha, compered the stage programme.
During the programme, the Bishop honoured ‘Konkan Maina’, Meena Rebimbus, with shawl, fruits, flowers and a memento. He said that he felt a sense of pride in honouring such an illustrious lady. Meena accepted this honour with a humble heart, and expressed her feelings through a melodious song.
Leslie Rego beautifully anchored the entire programme. Singing legend, Wilfy's children, Veena and Vishwas, invited their father to bring back the magical tempo of music he had created, through the song, ‘Porot Ek Pavttim’. They then briefed as to how they fell in love with Konkani music through the song, ‘Mog Kelo Sangitacho’. Meena Rebimbus expressed her love and relationship with her husband and prayed for eternal peace to his soul through the song, ‘Tum Maka Hanv Tuka’, composed by Veena Rebimbus. Vishwas Rebimbus and Claud DSouza expressed their love along with flower girls, Babita Pinto and Charleen Rebimbus, through the song ‘Fulabai’. Ivan Sequeira and Veena Rebimbus Pais expressed their feeling of love on a moon light in the form of a sentimental song, ‘Chan'nyachya Ratim’. Munita Veigas gave vent to her innocent love through the song, ‘Mhojem Kaliz Bul'lam’ in a very melodious voice.
‘Lungi’ song presented by Ivan Sequiera, Prem Lobo and Claud D'Souza, was on the issue of changing fashion among girls, and posed an open challenge to them to start a fashion of ‘Kachchem’. Vishwas Rebimbus and Babita Pinto suggested to follow a decent dress code while going to the
church through the song, ‘Matembor Pangor Dorina’. Ivan Sequeira expressed his love through the song, ‘Marina’. Vishwas Rebimbus created the illusion of flying through his song, ‘Suknne’. Prem Lobo and Claud DSouza paid rich tributes to the seven legendary Konkani stars, singers, artistes, dramatists, and novelists, who breathed their last during the year 2010 with a song ‘2010 Isvi’ composed by Veena Rebibus.
Claude D'Souza presented a dance song, ‘Zuvanna’. Babita Pinto and Prem Kumar Lobo presented the song, ‘Kutmachem Nanv Sangonaka’, which drove home the point that there is no use in repenting after a great fall. Veena, Ivan and Vishwas then came up with the dance song, ‘Nach Moga Nach’. ‘Johny Johny’, sung by Prem, Claud, Babita and Munita and enacted by Clarine Cleona, Anil Saldanha, Alwyn Sequera and Clinsly, succeeded in catching the attention of the entire audience. Babita Pinto expressed her love through the song, ‘Mhoje Kaliz Mogar Podlam’. ‘Kirgi Bazu’ song presented by Vishwas, Munita and group brought back memories of the rich Konkani culture that has lost its sheen as of today. ‘Konkani Amchi Bhas’ song presented by the entire troupe gave a call to preserve our language and culture.
Leslie Rego and Dolla left the audience laughing their hearts out through their hilarious skits namely ‘Budvont Bapoi (Wise Father)’, ‘Mashinar Hat (Hand on the Machine)’, ‘Baylechem Fone (Phone from the lady)’, ‘Parachute’ and ‘Mangalore to Goa distance’.
