Bengaluru, Jun 21: US-based soft drink manufacturer, Coco Cola Company has come forward to rejuvenate the historical Mamadapur tank in Vijayanagar district’s Babaleshwar taluk, according Industries Minister M B Patil.
The Coco Cola Company’s top executives Himanshu Priyadarshi and Mukund Trivedi called on the minister in Bengaluru on Friday.
After the meeting, Minister Patil said the US soft drinks manufacturer has offered to spend Rs 1 crore on reviving the tank.
The Mamadapur tank was constructed during the reign of Adial Shahi Sultans in the 16th Century. It is one of the biggest tanks with an achkat area of 674 acres and can irrigate the land with rejuvenation.
Minister Patil said the company would be desilting the entire tank at its own cost and construct the main bandara to enable flow of water. The Mamdapur tank will be protected by erecting fencing and providing walking paths besides play area for the children, he added.
The Mamadapur tank will definitely become a big tourist attraction in the district after its revival, the minister explained.
