Mangaluru, May 17: YEN-REFINED, Yenepoya Research Centre for Finance and Entrepreneurship Development, a research centre of The Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) organised a two-day national level workshop on "Comprehensive Strategies and Expert Guidance for Publication in Top-tier Journals – Research Design and Multivariate Analysis - Hands-on Practice” on May 15 and 16. The workshop focused on advanced research strategies and multivariate analysis, aiming to empower faculty and researchers with essential skills for publishing in top-tier journals.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural ceremony on May 15 at 9:30 am. The inaugural session commenced with a prayer led by Zulfi, student of first year Forensic Science, YIASCM. The event began with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries: V S Balasubramanian, joint director of the Bankers Institute of Rural Development (a unit of NABARD) as the chief guest, and Dr Sreejesh S, associate professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, as the guest of honour. The ceremony was presided over by Prof Arun A Bhagwath, principal and dean of Faculty of Science, YIASCM, alongside other esteemed guests, including Dr Shareena P, vice principal and dean of Faculty of Commerce & Management, Dr Jeevan Raj, vice principal, and Dr Niyaz Pankaje, coordinator of YEN-REFINED, YIASCM. The lighting of the lamp symbolized the enlightenment and quest for knowledge, followed by a welcome address and introduction of guests by Dr Prashanth, associate professor at YEN-REFINED.
During the inaugural session, Dr Niyaz Pankaje emphasized the workshop’s significance, highlighting the importance of understanding research strategies and the need for publishing in prestigious journals. He stressed the value of multivariate analysis in research. The Chief Guest, Shri V.S. Balasubramanian, spoke on the critical role of social science research in forming evidence-based policy initiatives, particularly in addressing rural economy issues. He encouraged researchers to focus on actionable research that can influence policy making in the upliftment of rural economy. Dr Sreejesh S., the Guest of Honour, accentuated the importance of research in the teaching profession, advocating for a career that includes extensive research beyond basic teaching, which becomes a reality only through passion and excitement in research. He emphasized the necessity of publishing in high-impact journals to advance academic careers. Prof Arun A Bhagwath, the principal, highlighted the practical applications of research and the necessity of having clear research objectives which aligns with practicality. He also discussed the integration of technology in research for enhanced analysis and interpretation. Mahammad Shahid, HoD of Commerce proposed a vote of thanks for the inaugural session.
Dr Sreejesh S conducted the workshop sessions over two days, covering essential topics such as the purpose of research, prioritizing research efforts, and the career impacts of research activities. The sessions included hands-on training in Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), with participants praising Dr Sreejesh’s clarity and effective impactful teaching pedagogy.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session on May 16, where Prof Catherine Nirmala from Alva's College, Moodbidri, and Dr Rijo Gratius from Marian College, Kerala, applauded the institution for bringing in resource person from Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode and also praised the resource person’s knowledge sharing expertise. They also mentioned that the workshop was incredibly well-organized and managed, making it a valuable and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
During the valedictory session, the resource person Dr Sreejesh S, commended the institution’s focus on making the workshop accessible and budget-friendly, emphasizing its commitment in empowering researchers. The principal, Prof Arun A Bhagwath, in his concluding remarks, he urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained in their research endeavors to produce impactful, application-oriented research. The session ended with Dr Abhinandhan Kulal, research associate at YEN-REFINED, overseeing the distribution of certificates to 102 participants from various states of the country including Kolkata, Goa, Kerala, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu. The vote of thanks was graciously presented by Neekshitha Shetty, HoD of Department of Management, YIASCM.
The organisers YEN-REFINED team, acknowledged the collaborative support and guidance extended by Dr Arun Bhagwat, the principal of YIASCM along with the vice principals Dr Shareena P, Dr Jeevan Raj and Dr Narayan Sukumara in elevating the Yenepoya (Deemed to be Univeristy) institution’s ethos of academic integrity and ethical research conduct.
The event was co-ordinated by Dr Niyaz Panakaje, coordinator of YEN-REFINED, with the assistance of Dr Prashanth, associate professor of YIASCM in-charge of hospitality, Dr Shakira Irfana, associate professor of YIASCM hosting the session, Dr Abhinandhan Kulal and Madhura, research associates of YEN-REFINED, Baziga Junior Research Fellow, Babitha, research intern taking over the overall arrangements.
The workshop concluded with the National Anthem, marking the end of a successful and enriching two-day national level workshop. The participants left with enhanced skills and a renewed commitment in advancing their research careers, expressing their gratitude to the dedicated efforts of YEN-REFINED, YIASCM, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University).
