Mangaluru, Mar 27: Deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Muhilan said on Wednesday March 27 that the city is not facing any sort of water scarcity and the authorities are confident in managing the situation up to May.

He further elaborated, “We are closely monitoring water availability. Regarding bulk water supply, in Thumbay, we have 5.48 meters of water with a maximum capacity of 6 meters. In the AMR dam, we have 17.63 meters of water with a capacity of 18.9 meters. In the downstream Harekala dam, we have 1.95 meters out of a maximum capacity of 2 meters, while in Biliyoor, we have 4 meters of water. Currently, we will allocate 50% of the water for industrial use, with no scheme in place for agricultural usage.

“If the water level in Thumbay drops to 5 meters, we will replenish it from the AMR dam. Similarly, if the water level in the AMR dam decreases to 16 meters, we will refill it from the Harekala dam.

“In urban areas such as Ullal, Kotekar, and Someshwar, residents are facing water shortages, and water is being provided via tanker. In rural areas, five gram panchayats including Konaje, Balepuni, Narimogaru, Manjanady, and Pajiru are experiencing water shortages.

“We also urge the public to conserve water and cooperate with the district administration. We hope to avoid rationing, but achieving this goal is only possible with the support of the public,” he said.
