Bengaluru, Mar 1: Families of organ donors were lauded and issued appreciation certificates by chief minister Siddaramaiah at his official residence on Friday.
The chief minister extended support and even consoled the families of organ donors. The scene at the chief minister’s official residence Cauvery was poignant when the wife of the deceased Sharavana was issued an appreciation certificate and the widow was seen crying remembering her husband.
The chief minister assured the bereaved family that the government will offer
its assistance and support.
Siddaramaiah recalled that he had established a society of organ donors during his previous regime and said such people need full support as they help other persons requiring organs for transplants and survive.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the number of persons, who have come forward to donate their organs has exceeded 8,000 and said it is laudable that over 178 persons had donated their organs last year alone.
Karnataka has emerged as the second state in organ donation and appealed to more and more people to come forward to register their names, he said. The minister explained that donating organs of a person, after meeting with accidents with no hopes of survival, can at least help in saving the lives of eight other persons and it is necessary that people come forward to help the needy persons.
Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy, Health and Family Welfare Department principal secretary T K Anil Kumar and commissioner D Randeep and others were present.
