Mandya, Dec 16: BJP Opposition leader in the State Assembly R Ashok on Saturday lashed out at the ruling Congress party for following the ‘communal’ ideology of Tipu Sultan while BJP swears by Hindutva ideology and criticized the Congress party’s moves to christen the Mysuru airport after Tipu Sultan.
Addressing the media after leading a massive protest against the Siddaramaiah government over the stripping incident of the woman in Belagavi and the detection of large scale killing of female fetus in the State, Ashok ridiculed the Congress party for projecting Tipu Sultan as a freedom fighter when he was a ‘most communal despot’.
The BJP leader said the people will teach a lesson to the Congress MLA for urging the government to name the Mysuru airport after Tipu Sultan and pointed out that people of Mandy know Tipu’s communal history and killing of Hindus in Mandya and Kodagu besides chopping off Brahmins in Melukote.
“What is Tipu’s contribution to the state? Did Tipu or his father Hyder Ali build any dams or tanks or educational institutions,’’ he asked and accused Tipu and Hyder Ali of usurping power in Mysuru by duping the then Mysuru ruler Odeyar.
Ashok accused the Chief Minister for wasting the legislature time by giving an insipid reply in the State Legislature in Belagavi while preventing the opposition parties from raising the issue of the stripping of the woman in Belagavi district.
He attacked the Chief Minister, Home Minister and the Belagavi district in charge minister of not visiting and meeting the woman and only after the issue became a major controversy all over the country leading to protests, the State Government sanctioned Rs 5 lakh compensation to the woman. The Congress government blocked the opposition party-led adjournment motion on the breakdown of law and order situation in the State, he said.
The BJP leader claimed that the government tried to hush up the incident of stripping of the woman until the party leaders visited the place and met the victim.
Ashok visited Alemane in the outskirts of Mandya district, where a female fetus was being destroyed, and questioned the laxity of the district administration in preventing the heinous crime and took the District Health Officer to task for doing the vanishing act.
The BJP leaders held a protest in front of the Mandya Deputy Commissioner’s office, in while BJP district president C P Umesh, Ashok Jayaram, S P Swamy and others participated. They later presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumar.
