Udupi, Oct 19: Lombard Fertility Centre, a unit of Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, in collaboration, with Dr Nayak’s fertility clinic and IVF centre was inaugurated on October 19 at LMH hospital Udupi.
Hemachnadra Kumar, Bishop of CSI KSD, inaugurated the new unit in the presence of Dr Navinchandra R Nayak, consultant in Reproductive Medicine, Dr Nayak's Fertility Clinic & IVF Centre, Mangaluru Dr Swathi Nayak, Ivan D Soans, area chairman, Udupi; Dr Deepa Rao, deputy director of LMH & consultant gynaecologist; Dr Pavitra, consultant gynaecologist at LMH and Dr Akshata Rao, consultant gynaecologist, LMH and Shivaprasad Shetty, marketing consultant were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathered, Hemchandra Kumar said, “It is easy to dream but it is too hard to make our dreams reality. Dr Sushil Jathanna has taken many innovative steps and has initiated many new services as well. When a person is well versed in his area of capacity, he will excel in that particular area. Dr Sushil has always thought of giving back to the society something through his service. There is a demand in our hospital for the fertility clinic as LMH is well known for its mother and child care. Many couples suffer from infertility. This clinic will be a boon for such couples to receive the blessings of almighty. I thank Dr Nayak’s fertility and IVF centre for joining hands with us. Their guidance and co-operation will help us to grow more. I appreciate the effort of the staff of our hospital for extending their support in the development of the hospital.”
Dr Naveenchandra Nayak, consultant in Reproductive Medicine, Dr Nayak's Fertility Clinic & IVF Center, Mangaluru, speaking about the new centre said, “It is a big privilege for us to collaborate with Lombard Memorial hospital. LMH was an ideal for us during our student life. It was well known for its mother and child care. The dedication and commitment the staff of this hospital show is commendable. The three consultant gynecologists of the hospital are very well versed and dedicated. When it comes to infertility, common people require just basic treatments. Proper counseling is more important than any treatment. In Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, we are more focused on education and career than giving importance to family life. If we counsel the patients properly we can avoid a great amount of infertility. As many as 20% of patients will conceive with just the proper guidance which reduces the number of patients going for IVF. Dr Nayak is always at the service for LMH. Tertiary care will be given by us. We have a vision to help infertile patients get a gift of life. We are 20% cheaper than any other centre in Mangaluru. We are the only centre which has the complete 4 level treatment available at one stop. We are patient centric and individual care will be given for every patient”.
Dr Sushil Jathanna, director, Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, Udupi presided over the program. In his presidential address, he said, “Lombard Memorial Hospital had a humble beginning with just six beds, but today we have grown into a multi specialty hospital. Our mother and child care is still renowned for its service. Fertility clinic is our pride. Much of the problem will be resolved at this centre here itself. For advanced IVF treatment the patients might need to go to Dr Nayak’s Fertility and IVF Centre in Mangaluru. This is the only hospital which provides services from cradle to grave. Very soon we will be initiating a neonatal unit as well In the hospital. Dr Naveenchandra Nayak will be available for consultation on the first and third Friday of every month.”
