Mangalore: Devotee Offers Gold Garland to Sri Gopalakrishna Temple Deity

Mangalore, Aug 24: During the Shree Krishna Janmashtami celebrations held at the Sri Gopalakrishna Temple, Shaktinagar, K C Nayak of Mahabaleshwara Promoters and Builders Pvt Ltd, with contributions from the temple management and devotees offered a gold garland weighing 28 sovereigns to the presiding deity.

One lac ‘tulsi’ (holy basil) leaves were also offered to the deity. On the occasion, minister Krishna J Palemar, Dr K V Devadiga, A V Shetty, Sanjeeth Nayak, K C Nayak, Suguna Nayak, Dr Bhaskar Shetty, and Monappa Bhandary were present.

    Rather than Garland an idol - Blessings would come aplenty had the same amount of money been tourned into cash and used for the upliftment of the poor or some needy student of their own community. Wonder when we Indians will be practical and go beyond traditions that hold no value in todays world, where the need of the hour is to see improvement in the life of the people and not beautifying an idol that will not know ehther the garland is made of Gold or of aluminium ..
