Udupi, Oct 4: The department of pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical quality assurance, and pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and management at Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) organized the highly successful Manipal Pharmaceutics Conference (MPCON) 2023, held from September 28 to 30 at their campus in Manipal, Karnataka, India. This year's conference revolved around the theme 'Revisiting Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: Insights into Production, Quality, and Regulations'.
Many enthusiastic participants, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, faculties, and industry representatives from various parts of India, MPCON 2023 emerged as a significant gathering in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
The conference commenced on September 29, with the esteemed presence of Lt Gen Dr M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), who not only inaugurated the event but also released a book titled 'Pharmaceutical Scientist of Manipal' as part of MCOPS's diamond jubilee celebration. Dr Sharath Rao, pro vice chancellor-Health Sciences, MAHE, highlighted the crucial role of industry-academia collaboration and legal support in advancing pharmaceutical research. Dr H Shivakumar, president of the Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India (APTI), Karnataka branch, congratulated the organizers and emphasized APTI's mission of promoting education and research in pharmacy. Dr Srinivas Mutalik, head of the department, pharmaceutics, MCOPS, and organizing secretary, expressed gratitude and presented tokens of appreciation to the distinguished guests.
The conference featured a vibrant poster presentation session, with a total of 175 scientific posters displayed by both students and faculty delegates. Additionally, the event saw the participation of renowned resource persons from various organizations, including the Centre of Pharmaceutical Innovation, UniSA, Australia, Group Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Bengaluru, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd, Hyderabad, Syngene International Ltd, Bengaluru, and Cipla Ltd, Mumbai. These experts shared their invaluable insights and expertise with the delegates, contributing to the enriching experience of MPCON 2023.
Prior to the main conference, three parallel pre-conference workshops were conducted on September 28. These workshops covered topics such as 'Introduction to IPR with special emphasis on Patents', 'IVIVC', and 'Bioanalysis'. Resource persons from esteemed institutions and organizations like Biocon - Bristol-Myers-Squibb Research Centre, Bengaluru, Cipla, Mumbai, and ITC Life Sciences & Technology Centre, Bengaluru, facilitated these workshops. Dr C Mallikarjuna Rao, principal, MCOPS, inaugurated the pre-conference activities, underscoring the importance of enhancing skill sets in the pharmaceutical industry and fostering strong industry-academia partnerships.
